About Downcast

Downcast are a three piece melodic hard rock band based in the Drogheda/Dublin area.

We formed in August 2004 when Dave Black (Drums) contacted Martin Lambert (vocals/Guitar) to start a band. The two had been been in a band previously, their shared musical taste and musicianship was something they felt they couldn’t let go to waste. Now they needed a bassist to complete the line up. Aidan Byrne (bass), a long time friend of Lambert had just returned from a round world trip and stepped into the role....the sound of Downcast was born... With Aidans thumping,melodic bass lines, Dave's solid, powerful drum work, Martin's mind blowing riffs and shatterin vocals, they knew something different was bein created...

And so the jamming begun, for 5 months; hours upon hours were spent in David’s garage moulding and shaping the songs that would represent Downcast. An unusual choice but one the band agreed on, was to record their debut EP without even playing live once!

After choosing ‘FatDog Recording Studios’ in Duleek, Co.Meath  for their recording and laying down the chosen four tracks, the promotion and gigging began. Some time was spent getting the CD cover and packaging together.

The EP launch was held in The Pale, Christchurch, which was a great success. From there they went on to play the Coda Club Kilkenny, get through to the Grand Final of the Xlantic Band of the Bands, play The Village, and  venues in Drogheda, with lots more to come.
